Iris 50 Hand Bearing Compass Product Review

The Iris 50 is a rugged and accurate marine compass

The Iris 50 is a rugged and accurate marine compass

The first marine product review of 2009 is for Plastimo’s Iris 50 hand bearing compass. The Iris 50 is a great marine compass that should be on board any coastal cruiser, race boat or day boat. It is a great compass that can be used as a back up to your GPS or can give you a quick fix on your position. The Iris 50 is a high quality navigation tool that is easy to use, accurate and rugged.

The highlights of this great little compass are:

·          Accuracy- The Iris 50 is accurate to 1 degree.

·          Legibility- The Iris 50 is easy to read a bearing for an object on the horizon. I use reading glasses and had no trouble reading the bearing very clearly with the naked eye.

·          Night use- The built-in photoluminescent lighting is maintenance free and makes the Iris 50 easy to read clearly even at night.

·          Compact- The Iris 50 is a lightweight, hockey puck style hand bearing compass.  It’s easy to wear around your neck or stuff in a pocket.  Having the compass accessible makes it more likely to be used.

If you are considering adding a hand bearing compass to your navigation chest, we recommend that you take a good look at the Iris 50.  Read the full review at marineproductreviews.com.
